Images from the Nerang Soap Box Derby

A little history of the predecessor to the modern Billy Cart Rally!

Information supplied by Debbie Flesser, Region Leader (Member Welfare); some information about the photos from Grant Flesser, who was a Scout at the time the photos were taken.

It was an event run by Nerang Scout Group for many years; the photos were probably taken about 1968.
At this time the event was held on a property in Latimers Crossing Road, Gilston on the corner of Gilston Road.
There were 2 categories of carts: 1. with ball bearing wheels, and 2. without ball bearing wheels.
Note the PA system with valves in photo number 9! Grant's father Harold Flesser is the man with the light coloured shirt; he was on the committee at this time.
The carts were followed down the slope by a mini Moke to check the speed; Grant's cart did 35 mph and wasn't the fastest.
Photo number 2 is Grant Flesser and his sister Ruth. His father Harold is in photos 7 and 9.

Thanks to Debbie for supplying these photos and accompanying text.
